Soul Food Beats Diet Food Every Time For Weight Loss

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Malcolm Evans There has been much debate recently over the ethics of various Christian groups who have been making weight loss and weight control the focus of their evangelistic mission. These various bodies for Christ movements claim with varying degrees of moral dogmatism that slimness is next to Godliness and that obesity is a sin. Many others are simply condemning such messages as just the latest absurdity to inhabit that crossover point between established religion and surreal consumerism. But perhaps the issue deserves a much closer look, if not from a personal belief standpoint then perhaps with regard to the psychology of natural, lasting and painless weight loss. Something will always strike you if you visit a mainstream place of prayer, and it doesn’t have to be a Christian house of worship; it can also be from amongst the World’s rich heritage of other great monotheistic religions. And for those of us obsessing about our weight, or caught up in long-term and futile dieting cycles, this differentiating detail is very, very obvious indeed. The rate of overweight amongst these congregations is often way below the societal average. These are congregations who buy in generally to the messages of love and respect at the core of their belief systems. Moderation and temperance also feature but these are by no means cultures, unlike the specific dieting-for-Jesus sub-cults, which make any great play of weight control advice. If one seeks out other, modernist, congregations, of non-religious but like-minded believers, then the pattern repeats. It is most obvious at entrepreneurial conventions. These not closed attendance events for the members of senior professional associations, where the attendees have frequently grown plump on the back of long-term monopolistic fees. No, these are places where self-starters gather from all corners, ravenous to lap up the motivational cream from their success story idols and so nourish their own precious start-up and expansion plans. What all of these individuals share, both sacred and secular, is a burning passion. Food is removed to a secondary, or indeed, even lesser role in their lives. Life is not measured by feeding and food fretting but rather in terms of a personal morality of creating, doing and achieving. And this is where dieting will fail its own deluded believers every time. Once the current artificial creed of what is right or wrong to eat comes to an end, as it always must, what is left to fill the sudden void within? Nothing except the cravings of old which rapidly tumble back into full and riotous flow, perpetuating the feast-famine cycle of weight un-control. The lesson for today is that Jesus may well fill you with good things but there many other ways forward which also leave no room any longer for dieting nonsense, food worries or other such junk. Don’t diet, do it and do it with passion, relevance and meaning and draw your happier sustenance from this instead. Author Malcolm Evans is founder and secretary of The Weight Foundation charity which researches dieting and produces research and commentary on weight loss culture. Thomas the Train: Anniversary of a Legend

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

By Jared Winston For those of us who grew up hearing the stories and reading the books, Thomas the Train is a living legend. On 2005, Thomas and, of course, his friends celebrated their sixtieth birthday. Back in 1945, in England, the Anglican reverend Wilbert Awdry started the Railway Series by writing the first book. From that moment on, an entire generation of children has learned to love the beautiful adventures lived by Thomas the Train and his group of human-faced friends. When he was a little boy in Box, Wiltshire, in his father’s vicarage (his father was also a clergyman), Wilbert Awdry dedicated his nights listening to the sounds made by the trains of the Great Western Railway running along the main line. This main line went between Paddington to Bristol, and passed near Vere Awdry’s (Wilberts father) house. He spent hours imagining the “conversations” between those trains. He may not have realized it yet, but Thomas the Train was already being born. In the year of 1943, reverend Awdry’s son, Christopher, happened to be ill in bed. As with every child, he was very active and being in bed was frustratingly boring for him. As an attempt to entertain his son and keep him amused, Wilbert started making up stories about a locomotive named Thomas the Train. As an easy way to remember some basic information and preserve uniformity between the stories, he wrote down some of the attributes of his characters on a piece of paper; this way every story he told little Christopher was consistent with the previous one. That was a need, since Christopher’s inquisitive nature and intelligence (he was just three years old, by the way) made him pick up differences between versions when he asked his father to re-tell him a story. Having everything written on paper, Reverend Awdry easily remembered every detail of the adventures of Thomas the Train and his friends. By the time of 1945, a retired businessman named Edmund Ward was looking for a diversion when he heard about Wilbert Awdry’s stories. He decided to publish the first book. The first Thomas the Train book was so successful that Mr. Edmund Ward had to come out of his retirement to satisfy the increasing demand. The success of the Thomas the Train and Friends’ books was amazing. Reverend Awdry had to write a high number of new stories in order to fulfill the people’s expectations. After having written twenty-six books, Wilbert decided that he was too old to continue writing. His son Christopher took up the series, then. Thanks to his efforts, there are now a lot more stories in addition to those original 26. Thomas the Train stories will live in our hearts forever, filled with adventures and healthy entertainment not only for children, but for not-so-young parents too, who sometimes are even more excited about a new Thomas the Train book than the kids themselves. Happy birthday then, to Thomas the Train and all his friends, and let there be many more adventures coming soon! Copyright Jared Winston, 2006. All Rights Reserved. Understanding The Operation Of Mobile Phone Networks

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Lenkefi]Peter Lenkefi Mobile phones have become as commonplace as pocket radios. There is no where you will go without finding someone with the palm tucked close to the ear receiving or making a call.Mobile services differ greatly from the traditional telephony service in many respects. Here, we try to look at how cellular phones phones operate and how calls are made and received. The first thing you will have to understand about mobile technology is mobile phones are essentially radios. All communication to an from the device travel along radio lines and is bound by radio transmission rules we see in the old Motorola two way radio systems. The only difference is that cellular phones are able to apply computer concepts such as advanced networking and sophiscated programming into their functions and that is how we come by SMS text messages, conferencing, call waiting features and calendar systems. The second concept is that of cells. There is no single block of network but rather a city may be divided into several cells and a call from one cellular device to the other keeps hoping along the cells till it gets to the destined number. The advantage of the cell system, is that it allows for frequency reuse, meaning several users can use the same small cell and permits the company to use the same frequency over and over again without locking resources to one phone call only. Typically, one cell covers about 26 square kilometers and each one has a base station which is just a tower and some radio equipment to manage the signals.Of late, cell phone technologies are laden with computer applications. SMS and WAP access are for example typical computer applications that have found their way into cellular functionality. SMS operates like the traditional email system and is controlled by a server just like we have a network server. WAP dwells more on computer programming and is also controlled by a WAP server. When you send a text message, it travels over the cellular network and is stored in a server and delivered to the recipient. The reason why it is purely a computer network facility and independent of the cellular service is that even whilst receiving calls SMS messages can come through. WAP is purely an internet driven service integrated into cellular networks to enhance experience normally reserved for internet surfers. Examples of these facilities are downloads and information services like flight schedules and weather updates which are obtained from cellular operators via handsets. As mobile users grow in sophiscation, so does the technology that drives the device. Each new day we shall see what we call convergence technology whereby other fields of communication shall be gradually fused into mobile operations to give customers enhanced experience. Ginger for Upset Stomach

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By Marilyn Pokorney The common ginger root used in cooking has been found toalleviate nausea, indigestion, and motion sickness. For motion sickness ginger is more effective than the commonDramamine, says the British medical journal Lancet.Researchers recommend 1,500 mg. of ginger approximately 30minutes before travel. An alternative is a 12 oz. glass ofginger ale. Another study found that a 940 mg. dose ofginger was effective if it was consumed 20 to 25 minutesbefore travel. Physicians in Europe found that 250 mg. of common gingerstops the nausea and vomiting of mothers-to-be. A study with 80 Danish naval cadets unaccustomed to sailingheavy seas found that one gram of ginger reduced vomitingand cold sweating. Fewer symptoms of nausea and vertigowere also reported. The magic ingredient is gingerol, the active ingredient inginger. It works with the gastrointestinal tract and doesnot interact with the nervous system so it has no sideeffects of toxicity. A 1/2 teaspoon of ginger is as effective as Dramamine inrelieving motion sickness and is equal to 940 mg. A ginger tea can be made by measuring one teaspoon ofpowdered ginger in a cup of boiling water or fruit juice. Another method of using ginger is to use essential oil ofginger. Fill a bowl with boiling water, put in one drop ofginger per pint of water used, cover your head and inhalefor 5 minutes with your eyes closed. For morning sickness drink ginger ale or ginger tea, eatginger snaps or take 250 mg. of ginger four times daily.Using 1/8 teaspoon of powdered ginger 4 times a day relievedmorning sickness in pregnant women. During pregnancy, the total daily dose should not exceed onegram daily. For others, the daily dose may approach two tothree grams if needed. For prevention of motion sickness, begin taking three to four hours before the planned trip. The active ingredient in ginger is gingerol, so whenpurchasing a ginger extract, make sure it is standardized inan 11:1 concentration. The recommended dose of the extractis 1,000 mg. While ginger is safe for most people, if there is a historyof heartburn or gallstones, a doctor should be consultedbefore use. How To Attract A Man & Why It’s So Much Easier Then You Might Think

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By Mikee Dunn I hear it all the time from my wifes friends and even my sister since youre a guy, can you show me how to attract a man? After years of hearing this over and over again I finally decided that I would do something about it and help all the lonely ladies out there in need of some REAL advice from a guys point of viewafter all, were who youre trying to attract right? Ok so first off, I want to make it clear to everyone lady out there, that Im sick and tired of women thinking that its extremely difficult to find the man of their dreams, or even just get a date. Regardless of what you might think of yourself, youre a beautiful person in every respect! The sooner that you can believe that yourself, the sooner everyone around will see it too. I see many women proclaiming that its either just too late for them or that there just arent any guys out there for them. This could not be further from the truth, and there is always somewhere out there for you, the trick is to keep your eyes open and to put yourself out there to be discovered. Everyone has their right fit out there, and its only a matter of time before you bump into that right fit. Another topic that must be brought up is how it seems that many women seem to be under the impression that there are some sort of set of tricks that will lead you to the man of youre dreams. Fortunately, there is no such trick, even though many would want you to believe this. The truth is that we guys dont want to have anything to do with gimmicks and games; we just want a girl to be sincere, honest and to be herself. Men dont want to have to guess at what a girl is really like underneath the show that she feels she has to put up, and we quickly see through it too. Playing games only lets the guy youre trying to attract see that youre lacking confidence and self esteem. Either the guy will like you, for who you truly are, or hes not the right candidate for you, and you need to move on to another and another until you find exactly what youre looking for. The whole process of how to attract a guy really is not all that difficult, and if my tone seems rather stressed and frustrated, then I apologize. However women need to start seeing the beauty within themselves, and understand that the art of attracting the man of youre dreams is a very simple one that can be accomplished by any lady, as long as they understand the true nature of the art. Im sick of women constantly thinking that theres some sort of big secret to the methods of how to attract a man. Im here to help and end this outrageous thinking. Supplement Your Skills and Improve Your Work Position

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Seamus Dolly It is often said that the majority of people are but a few checks away from homelessness. Without a consistent income, this may be a true statement. Some ability to multi-task can get you through a temporary employment down-spell. While a formal plan is often best, the theory of continued employment is rapidly changing.Your union may not have the foothold it had in less prosperous times or out-sourcing may be the view of an employers accountant. Indeed, there can be numerous reasons why the stability factors of a steady job may change. The most dramatic one for the next generation will likely be lower production costs of other countries, and the modern infrastructure for a company to relocate. On a more regional level, cheaper short-term labour is explored, where the cost of benefits to such persons are going to be more cost effective. Some European-wide laws can mean that the good of the many will override the desires of an individual who is sitting in a comfortable but temporary, privileged position. You dont have to like it, but you might have to live with it. However, there are some steps that you can take to formulate your future, rather than passively responding to it. 1. Be aware of the changes that are on the cards. You cannot predict everything but you can act on current information. 2. E-learning has made some phenomenal leaps in their approach to distance learning. Anyone that did a correspondence course in anything of a technical nature, would have met with some disadvantages over a one to one learning environment. Look at this again and enjoy the flexibility of modern technologies.Where you may not have the funding, many local training authorities run similar courses. 3. Do something every year, and from year to year, to improve your skills set even if it just to learn how to type, for example. Learn simple little things that might give you an advantage as documentation is becoming necessary for jobs that were historically manual in nature. Your ability to type may swing an interview in your favour. 4. Look for D.V.Ds/C.D.s, where local training is not there for you. E.C.D.L.s or European Computer Driving Licences are available on such media. Second hand computers are everywhere, and perfectly good machines are thrown out on a daily basis, simply because their owners deem them to be outdated. Indeed, with a little gossip and observation, these can be got for free. Older computers are often considered worthless, but perfect for general tasks and communication. It might be a safe assumption that anyone reading this has a computer, but for someone that you know who doesnt have a phone line/other access, direct them to local or public libraries. 5. Network with your community. Yes, the world is getting both bigger and smaller if that is possible, but the community network can be seen to care about those within it. An hour of a Sunday and involvement within something of interest can pay dividends. Anything from Soccer support to something a little quieter like knitting or card playing, may achieve such local networking returns. If you decide to do this, youll not be alone in an objective context. 6. Network outside your community. Seek out connections wherever you can find them. Online forums/groups within your particular discipline may help, and even give you an idea of global thoughts. 7. Attempt to save at least three months wages. At least, attempt it or part of it. This strategy brings some peace of mind as well as some degree of financial security. The World and everything in it, is changing, revolving and ageing. The changing of it is a transit more controllable than the other two.
