God Gives Grace to the Humble and God Resists to Proud James 4-6

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Matthew Robert Payne James 4:6 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble. I am not sure about you but sometimes I find it really hard to sit in a church week after week and listen to sermons that dont add anything to you. I sat in a church for two years and did that and then in one angry phone call with the pastor I left. If you havent guessed it already, I had pride issues and still need a bit of counselling to get right down to the bottom of it. When you proud though its amazing how other people pick it up in your manner.I know a person that is really proud. I think he has a bigger problem then me. I have to laugh as though God measures pride in degrees like us humans. Anyway this guy is so hard to have a conversation with and unless you are agreeing with him he doesnt want to know you. I often wonder how people that are so proud ever get over it. I know God has chastised me with an affliction and somewhat he has calmed me down over the last six months and I seem to be travelling batter. God is not the only one that resists the proud, I find that pastors seem to give you a wide birth when you are proud. Let me say I am not proud of being proud! Hey thats a joke are you laughing. I used to look at a passage in 1 Peter for years. Jesus would constantly pint me toward it when I was questioning him . It follows exactly after the same verses quoted by James. 1 Peter 5:5-6 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble. 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,I used to ask Jesus how long I had to be humble under the mighty hand of God before He would exalt me. Its obvious that He will exalt me, but my idea of due time and His idea of due time might be two separate things. I have to confess Jesus has given me much grace I have had a life where for twenty years I had a sexual addiction and Jesus gave me a tremendous amount of grace. I speak of how I overcame that in other articles yet I have to say that Jesus still gives us grace and power from the throne to resist temptation. I enjoy obeying the Holy Spirit when the Holy Spirit gives me a direction. With all my faults I like to do things right. I know when the Holy Spirit tells me to do something that I am pleasing God when I do it.I have really a loving Father and in the past year I have been able to have conversations with the Father in heaven and He really is a wonderful God to know. I have a friend called Yianni that operates the prayer site below that has taught me a lot about having a simple relationship with God. To be able to converse with the creator and ask Him simple questions and chat about things and have simple faith to pray. God really does delight in giving us grace if we would bow down to Him and submit to Him and our leadership in humility. All leadership no matter how bad it is to us comes from God and we need to respect it. Can I pray for you? Dear Father You are aware of this persons life. You know their need and you know if they need to humble themselves before you. I pray that you inspire them through my simple writings to get a little more honest with themselves and You. I pray that you touch them today and that you answer their prayers in a new way and put the words in their mouth to pray and that you lead them to Yianni for prayer if need be. In Jesus Name I ask Amen Matthew shares his heart in these articles and can be found at http://www.online-prayer.net You can read more of his articles at his link below. If you want a copy of his upcoming book of articles which will have the first sixty of the articles on this web-site called “The Musings of a Mad Prophet” please contact Matthew via email so he can contact you around February 2007 to tell you of the progress of the book. Rejected Children: Would they have a Strong or Weak Personality?

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Lanie Pambid The magnitude of ones character may vary from the differences in the experiences of a persons life. The manner in which the degree of pain, sufferings, success, happiness and the like is what makes a person strong or weak. If a person was rejected in his childhood years, it may come to a point wherein he can either be strong or weak. Strong, in a sense that he would not let rejection take over him, or the feeling of rejection will not be embossed in his wits, thus rejecting the thought of rejection to strive harder not to be rejected ever again. Weak, in a sense that because of being an emotional type of person, he would just accept the fact that he will always be rejected throughout his life. The transformation in a persons life can also be a basis. If he was rejected in the earlier part of his life and then in the latter part came to be accepted or wanted, there will be a shift in his qualities, wherein the thought of being accepted would give him a change in his way of thinking. The notion that he can also be accepted would give him a better outlook on his own personality. The shift in the course of the approach, from being rejected and accepted will give way to a change of attitude. But does it really depend on how one copes with rejection? Yes. The childhood experiences that one has gone through will be the basis of how his traits are molded into what he is now. The coping skills of a child may vary on how he was able to survive his environment. Lets say for example, a child was rejected by his friends, but when he comes home, his parents would uplift his spirits and would comfort him, the feeling of rejection would be sheltered, thus the child now has a means of forgetting the rejection that he has just received from his friends. The parents play a big role in the growth of their children, thus they are the ones the child runs to for comfort. But if the parents themselves are the ones rejecting their own child then the child would not have a place to go to but to just accept the fact that nobody would reassure acceptance, thus becoming weak. Rejection from the outside (friends, environment, etc.) but is nurtured by acceptance in the inside (family, house) can modulate the childs confidence that there is what we call a rescue, thus making him strong. Throughout the life of your child, were you able to nurture him to be a stronger person? Or were you just too busy with your job that you forget to realize the fact that your child is already becoming weaker? Parents should always have time for their children, because they play a big role on how their children would turn out to be. Tipical Mistakes in Marketing

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Stefan D To prevent the risks of a promotion campaign for our products or services, I’m talking about email campaigns, it is recommended to study some of the most common mistakes that can be made in this situation: 1. The desire of immediate success Launching a promotion campaign through email can be compared the situation in which we want to reach the top of a hill with our car, starting from the base. It is obvious that we wont succeed on the first try and it requires a little more time until we reach the proper speed. In some cases we get to wonder if our car is capable of such a task. It takes patience! On the other hand, experts say that the only variable that influences the success of any marketing campaign is the force of the message. Thats why a campaign needs to be focused, faithful to the promoted message and you need to arm yourself with A LOT of patience. 2. Trying to reach a bigger audience then your budget allows. Which would be the right option? To have your message reach the whole target group and to influence only 10% or to have your message reach only 10% of the targeted group but to influence all the members? To understand better how marketing efforts can get more efficient take a look at this analogy: your message is the nail, repeating action is the hammer and the client is a chuck of wood. If the nail is sharp and the hammer is used efficiently you can pierce through the chuck of wood and catch the client. Oh well maybe it wasnt the right analogy but Im sure you got the message? Lets move on… 3. The assumption that the business owner is always right or knows best. There are situations in life ( like family environment, profession, hobbies), when are are all emotional implicated and we risk to lose objectivity. The excess of information related to our company, the services and products we offer, makes us answer questions that are never asked. “When you are closed in a bottle its hard to read your own label”. In this case, the opinion of a outsider can help.. big time! 4. Unfonded complaints A lot of service providers are complaining that they dont identify correctly the request of their clients and they end up by losing them. In this situation, its best to be specific in your presentation, offers, in the way you conduct your business because its better to be specific then to generalize. 5. Sending single emails instead of email campaigns Just like Rome wasnt built in a single day, or like friendship doesnt mean just one date, a single advertising ad doesnt provide the impact of an entire advertising campaign. While developing a advertising campaign there needs to be a connection, a link, a logic fluidity. All emails you send can be compared to pieces of a puzzle game that represents your companys image. 6. Obedience to the unwritten rules. You certainly want to be unique, different from the others. If you act like it, you certainly will be noticed. 7. Ignoring the adequate moment for sending emails. 8. Selecting the target audience. The fact that the advertising message needs to reach the decision factors ( people that make decisions ) of a company doesnt mean that your campaign is successful. The truth is that, the big majority of the decisions are presented to the people within the company: coworkers, employees, and so on. They make the decisions together. 9. Ignoring the words with impact. Words like: agile, smart, cute, creative, are just surrogates for words like: informative, credible, memorable and persuasive. The name of the e-commerce game is persuasiveness, influencing potential buyers to really buy your merchandise. This is what really brings you money and success. Levels of Marketing Activity, Part I

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Daniel Wadleigh There are basically two products/services that can be marketed. One is called commodities, the other is called new market development. Commodities These are products or services that have a commonly accepted benefit and a generally known and accepted price per unit. An example is a can of green beans, which “costs” about $.55. Brand name green beans, which have a recognized, dependable name, can cost a little more than “generic” beans. Generic products, however, are now becoming a commodity by repeated acceptance of the value (product’s price), partially because “known” stores are offering them, along with the reputation of the store being put on the line. Generic “colas” are similar to “Coke”, but not quite the same. A customer must decide if the taste difference justifies the cost difference - the higher price of “Coke.” New Market Development This is bringing to market products or services which are not (yet) commonly perceived as to the value of the benefits. This realm is for the bold. To prosper is to promote and create the perceived value of the product or service, in a way that has minimal risk of loss for the gamble taken. How to develop promotions wrapped around “added values” is all over the manual, however, know that new products can have sizzling profits wrapped around them, if you know and use the three essential components needed for every effective promotion. 1) Make the big benefit promise, with your unique way of delivering it. 2) Document all claims 3) remove all risk of buying your unproven product/service. How does Child Custody in Canada Work?

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Jonathan Brown In the confusion of divorce, most parents never consider the issue of child custody beforehand. Often communication between the spouses has broken down and both parents presume their assumptions about child custody to be accepted by the other parent. Often this is not the case. As a result, many divorcing parents find themselves confused and surprised by the prospect of child custody issues in divorce. The greatest misconception is that the primary caretaker is the presumed de-facto custodial parent. So, most parents who take the lead role in providing for the child in marriage simply assume that the law will recognize this role by giving him or her primary custody after divorce. Historical care, however, does not automatically guarantee child custody. If you have filed for a divorce and your ex has gone ahead and obtained a legal order to take custody of your child the child can be legally taken away from you despite any caretaking role you may have had in your childs life. As a result, unprepared divorcing parents often find themselves in a position in which they dont have the legal right to make any important decisions regarding their child on issues such as education, religion and medical treatment. Courts Decide Custody According to Canadian law, until courts decide otherwise, both parents have equal rights of custody to any and all children. Cutting through the legalese, what that means is: get the courts to grant you custody only then you are safe against any counter motions by your spouse. In order to navigate the courts, however, you need to educate yourself about Canadian custody battles to ensure that you, and not your ex, manage to convince the courts to give custody of your child to you. A Childs Best Interest In Canada, as in many other countries, courts focus on only one issue in child custody cases: they decide what in their view would be in the childs best interests and grant custody accordingly. This is a somewhat vague standard as you may imagine, and as a consequence it will serve you well to understand the underlying factors which will influence a court in reaching a decision regarding the best interest of a child. -each parent’s ability to provide for the child’s needs both financially and emotionally, -the relationship each parent has with the child, -your child’s wishes, if he or she is of an age of maturity to convey to the court their wishes, -if you have more than one child, the court normally prefers to keep them together, -the court will try to minimize the disruption of the child’s life (the status quo), -who the primary caregiver of the child was during the marriage, -time available to spend with the children (working hours, out of town trips), -one parent’s interference with the other parent’s relationship with the children, -any special needs of the child. Common Presumptions of the Courts The portrait painted above indicates that there are a great many factors which a court will use to determine the best interest of a child. That said, however, there are three cardinal rules that generally prevail for most courts: 1) Stay at home mother: A devoted stay at home mom almost always gains custody of the child over a working husband. This presumption is based upon the fact that, especially for young children, the court likes to place children in an environment where the parent is certain to be around often. 2) Established status quo: If either party has, for all practical purposes, already taken control of the child after separation but before any official declaration by the courts, the judge will typically interpret the current living arrangement as the default arrangement and all things being equal will uphold it. 3) Primary caregiver: If you can establish that you have been the primary care giver for a child then the law will typically presume that you are best situated to care for the child in the future and as a result grant you custody. The First Step To Getting Over A Breakup

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Michael Myerscough Lately Ive had a run of clients having a very hard time getting over the end of a relationship, so let me share some secrets with you about how to heal. I have a client called Dorothy whos struggling to let go of a relationship with a guy who shed initially thought was perfect for her. When we first started working together Dorothy was really angry and frustrated that, yet again, she was going to have to re-build her love life. The one good thing about those feelings was that they removed any temptation to get straight back into dating. The first step for any client I work with in this situation is to have them feel their feelings which is an essential part of the healing process. Some people really struggle with feeling certain feelings. Some of us are easier with anger, others with grief. Dorothy was more than comfortable with being angry but was very reluctant to admit that her anger was masking her feelings of hurt and loneliness. Those feelings made her feel vulnerable in a way she resisted furiously. I encouraged her to explore all of her feelings by writing a grief letter to her ex. The Grief Letter To write your letter take the time to explore what you are going to miss and what you arent going to miss. - What are you angry about? - What are you sad about? - What do you fear this break up means? - What was your part in the break up? - What are you always going to love or appreciate about your ex? This is referred to as a ladder of emotion and its great to write your letter in the above order. Feel free to use those questions as headers. That said if you need to keep coming back to anger then please do and then work your way back up the ladder again. Its important that you realise that you are never going to send this letter, this way you can explore being totally unreasonable and maybe even, what would previously have been, unbearably open about just how hurt you feel. Explore these questions in such a way that you can feel all the things you suspect may be true even if youd rather they werent. Write the letter as if you were writing it to someone who really cares about how you feel. Its really important that you take time to do this. Every time you leave a relationship there is a danger that you will suppress your emotions due to the pain and disappointment. That suppression continues after the breakup and makes you less attractive and can begin to limit your ability to love. If you go through this phase of feeling your feelings properly then youll be able to reconnect with at least some of the love you felt for this person youve parted from. Not in a way that eats at you but in a way that nourishes your sense of having a life worth loving. If youve loved deeply once, then you can do it again. It takes work to keep your heart healthy and open but its very valuable work. This is the first step in a process that can take anywhere from days to months and its a good solid first step. When Dorothy first began to be honest about how sad and lonely she felt she got scared about how overwhelming it felt. As if somehow she could become lost in the feelings or shed never feel good again. This process requires you to acknowledge that your feelings are not something to be afraid of. If youre feeling sad you are only sad. It doesnt necessarily mean theres something wrong with your life that must be fixed. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to just acknowledge that you do feel sad. The end of a relationship is often the death of something you found to be beautiful for a while. That said, no matter how big your grief is, youre going to get through it. You are far bigger than your worst feeling. Two months on Dorothy has learned a lot about her self and one of her unexpected breakthroughs is that being alone at home no longer makes her feel like theres something wrong with her. Suddenly being alone isnt so scary and from this place shes in a much better position to think about who shed actually like to make a part of her life. Feeling your feelings is the quickest route to healing and the only way out is through. Just remember that even your darkest minute is only 60 seconds long. Being Overqualified For A Job Is No Longer A Stigma

Friday, September 21st, 2007

By JoAnn Hines Once considered an unacceptable option to the career-minded, underemployment has become increasingly common as more professionals find themselves out of work for extended periods of time. You need a job and the optimum one is not on the horizon. The key is to be flexible. Taking a step down doesn’t have the negative impact on one’s career that it used to have. Nor does changing jobs with regular frequency. Climbing back up the career ladder is commonplace in todays volatile employment market. If you have made the difficult decision to accept a job that is below previous employment levels - in terms of title, responsibilities and salary — stay as long as necessary, but not one day longer. Tips for managing underemployment 1) Continue networking and job-hunting even after accepting a lower-level position. 2) Look for companies that provide an opportunity to move up. Maybe its not exactly what you want, but it may offer potential and long-term growth. 3) If you are underemployed, don’t change jobs just for the sake of changing. This is not the economy for job-hopping. Make your next position a calculated career move. 4) Do the research and evaluate the opportunity. Weigh the options carefully. 5) Make the transition into your dream job in a series of steps. Its highly unlikely that your dream job will fall into your lap. 6) If you inevitably have to take a step down, use the time to gain experience to break into a new position. Its a good time to become familiar with something you always wanted, but weren’t qualified for. 7) Take a job that teaches you something new. Build skill sets that enhance your marketability and job portfolio. 8) Sell to your experiences and expertise. Just because you are not in sales doesn’t mean you don’t know how to sell. 9) Create a resume that highlights the skills applicable to the lower level job you are after. Keep multiple versions of your resume on hand for better quality positions. Show how you can bring value to the company. 10) Communicate that you would be happy in the available position. 11) Keep a positive attitude. Just because this particular step is not toward the ultimate job, it doesn’t mean it won’t present an opportunity. 12) If you excelled in your last job, you will probably excel in the next one and move up quickly. 13) Never accept a position you will hate just for the sake of a job. This will do you more harm than good. Give yourself a gift that will last a lifetime. . . .a Packaging Coach. One-on-one coaching is not in everyone’s budget. Are You Paying Too Much On Your Electric Bill?

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Sheriece Sinnema Texas is leading the nation in Energy Deregulation. Because of the planning and implementation of a very efficient Energy Deregulation and Operating System by the Texas Legislature, Texans can now enjoy the benefits of competition. Texas created the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. The mission of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is to direct and ensure reliable and cost-effective operation of the electric grid and to enable fair and efficient market-driven solutions to meet customers electric service needs. The ERCOT grid covers approximately 75 percent of the land area in Texas. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to approximately 20 million Texas customers representing 85 percent of the states electric load and 75 percent of the Texas land area. As the independent system operator for the region, ERCOT schedules power on an electric grid that connects 38,000 miles of transmission lines and more than 500 generation units. ERCOT also manages financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administers customer switching for 5.9 million Texans in competitive choice areas. Balanced market rules are a basic element in Texas competition. Clear, predictable and well-designed rules help foster a stable electricity market. Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market rules are developed by participants from all aspects of the electricity industry. The rules and amendments are reviewed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas to ensure that they satisfy the public interest. WHY COMPETITION? Texas lawmakers changed state law to allow customers to have more control over their purchase of electric service because they believe competition is good for Texas. Over time, competition for electric service is expected to lower rates and speed the development of new products and services. WHAT HAS CHANGED? In the past, one company provided all parts of your electric service (generation, transmission and distribution, and retail sales). With competition, these parts are separated into different companies. Generation, or production of electricity, was deregulated in 1995, resulting in an ample supply of new, cleaner and more efficient power plants throughout Texas. The actual delivery of electricity across poles and wires to your home is called transmission and distribution. These services are provided to you by your local wires company, which is responsible for maintaining the poles and wires, and responding to emergencies and power outages as always. The Public Utility Commission continues to regulate transmission and distribution to ensure the safety and reliability of your electric service. With electric competition, Retail Electric Providers sell electricity to you and provide functions such as customer service and billing. Retail Electric Providers compete for your business by offering lower prices, renewable energy options, added customer service benefits or other incentives. No matter which Retail Electric Provider provides your service, the Public Utility Commission continues to enforce customer protections and regulate the delivery of electricity to ensure it is delivered safely and reliably by the local wires company . Competition also is expected to create new jobs, stimulate economic development and help our environment. CUSTOMER RIGHTS All Retail Electric Providers must adhere to Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) rules and regulations designed to protect you against fraudulent, unfair, misleading, discriminatory or anti-competitive practices. These protections include: Non-Discrimination: In addition to standard discrimination prohibitions, a Retail Electric Provider may not deny service or discriminate in the marketing of electric service based on a customers income level, location in an economically distressed area, or qualification for low-income or energy efficiency services. Slamming and Cramming: Slamming is switching your electric service provider without your permission. Cramming is adding charges to your electric bill for additional services without your permission. Both slamming and cramming are illegal. Dispute Resolution: Retail Electric Providers must promptly investigate customer complaints and customers have the right to make complaints about a Retail Electric Provider to the PUC. Privacy of Information: No Retail Electric Provider can release any customer-specific information to another Retail Electric Provider or any other companies without your permission. Safety and Reliability: No matter which Retail Electric Provider you choose, the Public Utility Commission continues to enforce customer protections and regulate the delivery of electricity to ensure it is delivered safely and reliably by the local wires company. DELIVERY OF ELECTRICITY When you choose a new electric provider, you are choosing the company that provides or sells you electricity a company called a Retail Electric Provider. These companies purchase electricity from competing power plants, and electricity is delivered to your home or business over the same poles and wires that are in your neighborhood today. The actual delivery of the electricity (”transmission and distribution”) is still provided by your local utility, now called a local wires company. In a competitive electric market, your local wires company will continue to be responsible for maintaining the poles and wires that deliver electricity to your home or business. You and your neighbors can all have different Retail Electric Providers, but you all have the same local wires company. An important message from the Commissioners regarding Electric Choice and the reliability of your electric service. - 01/05 REPAIRS AND EMERGENCIES If you experience an emergency or power outage, you may call: Your Retail Electric Provider, who will work with the local wires company to repair the problem, or connect you to your local wires company. The number for repairs and emergencies printed on your electric bill. Your local wires company as you do today. KHOU-TV CH-11 NEWS HOUSTON, TEXAS (June 6, 2006 Transcript) Families across our area can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars if they would only switch to anenergy provider that charges less. But you know what, most people just wont switch and weve wonderedwhy. 11 News reporter Jeremy Diesel shows us what hes uncovered. You have the power to choose.Power that can literally save you hundreds of dollars a year on your bill. But in the four years since electricity deregulation began in Texas only a little more than 25% of people in the Houston area have left Reliant Energy, even though the price its forced to charge is generally the highest. Minnie Lee Coleman is like so many others. If it gets unbearable here I will cut it off and just sacrificesomething else to pay my electric bill. Because paying half and part I dont do that. Last night she toldus shes willing to sacrifice. But not willing to leave Reliant for a cheaper price. I dont trust them. Andthats it. But why? Houston Mayor Bill White is hoping to educate. They should not question reliability as far as keepingthe lights on or what happens if there is a storm — who is going to turn back on the power.Heres the deal, when deregulation happened five years ago, Reliant Energy divided into two completelyseparate companies. Reliant which sells power and Centerpoint which delivers it. CenterPointowns the lines which carry power, maintain them and reads the meter no matter who your powerprovider is. Come storm time, its CenterPoint which restores power to those who lose it. Not the power provideryou pay. All of the power companies Reliant, TXU, Green Mountain, Commerce and more than a dozenothers all put their power on the Texas grid. Its then used by everyone. Your meter read by CenterPointshows the amount you used. CenterPoint forwards that information to your provider who bills you.Who you buy your power from does not affect the reliability of that power. But it can affect yourbottom line. Questions GeneralQ: What has stayed the same in electric service? A: Your current Transmission and Distribution Utility, or “local wires company,” continues to deliver electricity to your home. Your local wires company still responds to service interruptions and continues to maintain the poles and wires. You will continue to receive the same reliable service you are used to with your local wires company, regardless of which Retail Electric Provider you receive service from. Q: What has changed in electric service? A: You can now choose to buy your electricity from a different electric provider than the original provider for your area. These companies are called Retail Electric Providers. Additionally, your bill now looks different than bills you have received in the past, but each Retail Electric Provider provides the same standard information. Q: Do all Texans have the power to choose their electric provider? A: No. City-owned utilities and member-owned electric cooperatives have the option of giving their customers a choice of providers, or keeping things the way they are today. To see if competition is active in your area call toll-free 1-866-PWR-4-TEX (1-866-797-4839). Q: What are the benefits of Electric Choice? A: Texas electric rates are average, compared to the rest of the country, but our usage is among the highest in the nation due to demand for air conditioning during the long, hot summer season. Competition in other industries has often brought lower prices and innovative, new products and services. Having more control over your buying decision should make it easier to determine what matters most to you, whether its prices, renewable energy, customer service, or simply a name you know. Electric competition also should help the environment because Retail Electric Providers must offer some energy from renewable energy sources. Renewable energy such as wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass (gas released from landfills) produce less air pollution than sources that rely on burning coal or natural gas. The Texas power market is one of the most attractive in the country for new investment. Forty-seven new power plants have been built or are being built in Texas since 1995 (thats almost one-fourth of all power plants being built or planned in the nation). The properties represent a $10 billion investment in Texas. These plants provide jobs and sales and tax revenue into local Texas communities. Q: How does Electric Choice affect electric rates? A: The base rates for residential and small commercial customers of investor-owned utilities in Texas were frozen from September 1, 1999, to December 31, 2002. On January 1, 2002, rates for most of these customers were lowered, creating the “Price to Beat.” The Affiliate Retail Electric Provider cannot charge above this rate until it loses 40 percent of its customers or five years pass, whichever comes first. Q: If electric rates are frozen, why does my electric bill rise? A: Texas law allows the Affiliate Retail Electric Provider (the electric provider that was part of the original electric company that generated and sold electricity in your area, that now only sells electricity) to ask the PUC to adjust the “fuel factor” portion of its rate when there are significant changes in the market price of natural gas and purchased energy. These requests, which may be made twice a year, are subject to PUC review and approval. The cost of natural gas has increased significantly over the last year, and fuel factors have been increased to reflect the higher cost of natural gas. For more information on how natural gas prices change please review Questions and Answers Regarding Natural Gas Prices. The Affiliate Retail Electric Provider is prohibited from making a profit on fuel costs. Competitive (or new to the area) Retail Electric Providers set their own electric service rates. Q: With competition, will the reliability of my electric service change? A: No. No matter which Retail Electric Provider you choose, your electricity will continue to be delivered safely and reliably by the local wires company, a company still regulated by the PUC. Q: How does the new competition law protect the environment? A: The law requires “grandfathered” power plants (those that predate the 1971 Texas Clean Air Act) to reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions by at least 50 percent and sulfur dioxide by 25 percent before May 1, 2003. Encourages upgrade or retirement of older power plants to meet emissions standards by allowing utilities to recoup the costs of retrofitting or retiring certain older power plants. Provides incentives for energy efficiency programs that will result in less demand for the production of electricity. Requires retail electric providers to buy an additional combined 2,000 megawatts of Texas renewable electric generation capacity statewide by January 2009, from sources that include wind, solar, hydroelectric, biomass or geothermal. Q: Do I have to switch from my current electric utility? A: No. If you decide not to choose a new Retail Electric Provider, your service will be provided by the Affiliate Retail Electric Provider. The Affiliate Retail Electric Provider is the electric provider that was part of the original electric company that generated and sold electricity in your area, that now only sells electricity and provides customer service. Questions Changing Providers Q: Is there a penalty for changing providers? A: There is no switching fee unless you request a special meter reading at a time other than your regularly scheduled meter reading. There may also be penalties if you break an existing contract with your current Retail Electric Provider. Review your Terms of Service agreement for details. Q: If I sign up with a new Retail Electric Provider, when will the switch to that company happen? A: Customers can choose a Retail Electric Provider at any time; however, you will not begin to receive power from your new Retail Electric Provider until after your next regularly scheduled meter reading. Before you are switched, you will receive written confirmation in the mail. You will receive your first electric bill from your new Retail Electric Provider on the following billing cycle. Q: Do I have a right to cancel? A: Yes. You may cancel within three days from when you receive your Terms of Service agreement by contacting the Retail Electric Provider. If you are hand-delivered a terms of service agreement or you sign up for service using the Internet, there is a three-day cancellation period. The confirmation that will be mailed to you will also provide a way to cancel your switch. Q: What happens if my Retail Electric Provider stops serving customers? A: You will not be without electricity. Your Retail Electric Provider must give you 30 days advance notice to give you time to select a new provider. However, if you do not choose a new provider, your service will automatically be switched to the Provider of Last Resort for your area. Q: If I do not choose an electric provider, who will supply my electricity? A: If you decided not to choose a new Retail Electric Provider, your service is being provided by the Affiliate Retail Electric Provider. The Affiliate Retail Electric Provider is the electric provider that was part of the original electric company that generated and sold electricity in your area, that now only sells electricity and provides customer service. Questions Why is Texas different from California Although Texas and California have similarly sized electric grids and similar growth in power demand, Texas put more than eight times the capacity online between 1996 and 1999 than California added. The Texas power plant permitting process has a lead-time of two to three years to construct new power plants, while Californias lead-time is approximately seven years. Since 1995, 47 new power plants have been built or are being built in Texas, representing one-fourth of all power plants being built in the nation. California has built only two power plants since 1995. New plant construction will allow power generators to easily meet the needs of residential and non-residential power users in our state. Texas imports less than 1 percent of its power during peak power demand, compared to California, which imports at least 25 percent of its load during peak demand. Long-term wholesale market contracts in Texas shield customers from price volatility. In Texas, power generators and Retail Electric Providers can negotiate wholesale power purchases for the lowest price, which benefits customers. Texas enacted strong measures to protect customers during the transition to a fully competitive retail electric market. These measures have kept a lid on electric rates so Texas electric customers wont see their electric bill double or triple. How to Find Relationship Advice

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Kent Pinkerton One thing to keep in mind when seeking relationship advice is that the relationship advice business is exactly that a business, and a big business at that. It is important to be aware that there is a lot of bad advice available in the marketplace, a lot of poorly trained relationship counselors around, and a lot of poorly conceived and badly written books on the subject. So what do you do when you feel your relationship is starting to suffer? Where do you turn? The very first place to turn is to your friends and family members to see if they have had any experience in seeking out good relationship help. At the very worst, they may be able to steer you away from some counselor who didnt work or some books that didnt help. At the best, they may reveal to you that having been in the same position as you find yourself in currently, they found an answer or a therapist that worked for them and may also work for you. Word of mouth personal referrals are the absolute best way to find someone to help strengthen your relationship. Visit the therapist they recommended and talk with him or her. The initial consultation is usually free and youll know quickly whether or not this person has anything to say that might help you. Find some information about that couples relationship workshop they attended and see if looks or sounds like something you and your mate might want to try. Read that book, which by now is probably available for free at your local library and try to determine if it opens any windows into your situation. By spending some time where a friend directs you, you may not find the answers you seek but you will have started down a path of trying to heal things that just may lead you to the right destination.
